Rome, October the 15th 2018 - On Monday, 15th October 2018 the Council of Ministers, upon proposal of the Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte and the Minister of Economy and Finance, Giovanni Tria, approved the bill concerning the State budget for the 2019 financial year and the multi-annual budget.

The 2017 Economic and Financial Document (DEF) is the fifth presented during the current legislature; it offers an opportunity to evaluate past experiences and the results achieved so far, as a basis to guide future economic policy choices. After a profound and lengthy crisis, in 2014 the Italian economy started on a path of gradual recovery which strengthened little by little in the following two years. GDP for 2014 was revised upwards by nearly Euro 10 billion in nominal terms, and 2015 GDP by over 9 billion compared to estimates from a year ago.
Some clarification is needed regarding certain analyses reported on the media concerning the size of fiscal adjustment measures implemented by Italy in recent years. This can be done by recreating what has actually been Italy’s fiscal effort during the financial crisis.
