State General Accounting Department
This central coordinating body provides supervisory support to the MEF, and, consequently, Government and Parliament, on policies, processes and public finance requirements. Its mission is to ensure proper administration and rigorous planning of the state’s resources.
This department is responsible for the consistency of the state’s accounts and verifies and examines trends in expenditure and revenue collection.
In addition, it is called upon to check the validity in law and economic and financial soundness of all legislative provisions and is required to ensure that accounting regulations are consistently interpreted and uniformly applied. Lastly, through its inspection activity, it supervises the financial management of public agencies and has the authority to propose new regulations in the economic-financial sector.
